Insulation

The week before last (February 8th-12th) the house was insulated. They did the entire house except the crawl space. They got down into the crawl space and there was some residue water from the plumbing test, so they decided to let it dry out for an additional week. We were blessed with a beautiful dry sunny week last week which made for good drying weather. The remainder of the insulation went in on Monday and is now complete. Its so thick. Very different from insulations we have in the rafters in our attic here at 3615, which is the only area of the house that has insulation. I think the new house will be nice a warm and more energy efficient.

G is for Gutter

The rain gutters were put on today. It's a little thing but another step to building a house.

Wikipedia's definition for gutters:
"A narrow channel which collects rainwater from the roof of a building and diverts it away from the structure, typically into a drain."

Rough-in: Electrical and Plumbing

Rough-in electrical and plumbing is done. Both have been inspected this week and passed.

A Little Colour

The house has been painted. I like the colour.

What a Difference Two Weeks Make

The house has changed. In the last two weeks the following things have happened:
The roof has been shingled
The siding is on
The front door is in
The back door is in
The Garage doors are in (I LOVE them, I think they are a fun touch)
The cement floor for the garage has been poured
The furnace is in
The HVAC is almost complete
The electrical has been started
The plumbing is almost done
The tubs are in the house-ready to be installed




I drive by almost daily just after dropping Jacob off at Kindergarten. I think Eliza is a little sick of that. She calls it "the new house" but I don't think she really realizes we are actually going to live there. We talk about it but since it hasn't happened yet she doesn't believe it. To her its just become a bother to have to drive by pick up mail and walk through the house periodically. She has realized if she tells me she has to go potty we leave quickly. She would like to test out the honey bucket on the lot, I on the other hand would rather not have her test it out.

Roof

December 31st the framing for the roof was finished being put on the house. Wow-that went fast. I love the peak lines of the roof and how high it is. I think it looks beautiful. Watching these builders build has given me a greater appreciation into the skill that it takes to build a house. Its an incredible skill and an art all at the same time. I can't believe how quickly things have gone in this process. I know that the longest part will be the interior. It still feels surreal to me that in a few months time we will be moving into this house.
